neuroSpacey
NeuroSpacey is a community-driven web platform designed to help neurodivergent individuals discover and share sensory-friendly locations. Users can browse locations on an interactive map, contribute new entries, and read community-submitted descriptions that go beyond standard accessibility labels. Each location captures details that matter to neurodivergent users: noise levels, lighting conditions, crowd density, and overall sensory environment. New submissions are held for admin review before going live, ensuring quality and safety within the community. The platform is built with Next.js and MongoDB, using Styled Components for a consistent and carefully considered visual design. The interface features soft colors, clear typography, and a calm aesthetic that deliberately avoids visual overload. A role-based structure distinguishes between guests, registered users, and admins, with features and permissions tailored to each group. Registered users can submit and manage their own location entries, while admins oversee content approval and platform integrity. The design system draws on a custom color palette with warm, muted tones and a cozy illustrative aesthetic inspired by mid-century design. Typography is handled with Poppins for body text and DM Serif Display for headings, creating a friendly yet grounded reading experience. Every visual decision was made with sensory sensitivity in mind, from contrast ratios to layout density. NeuroSpacey is the capstone project of a web development bootcamp at neue fische. It represents both a technical milestone and a personal commitment to building web experiences that are inclusive by design, not as an afterthought.

NeuroSpacey was created to address a gap that rarely gets attention: for many neurodivergent people, finding spaces that feel safe and calm is genuinely difficult. Standard accessibility information does not capture sensory experience. NeuroSpacey fills that gap by building a community around shared, lived knowledge. The goal is to give neurodivergent individuals, including those with autism, ADHD, or sensory processing differences, a reliable and welcoming resource for navigating public spaces with more confidence and less overwhelm. Inclusion is not treated as a feature but as the foundation the entire platform is built on.
The Team
- Doreen SchwurackPortfolio
I'm a newly graduated junior web developer with a background in content marketing, photography, and visual storytelling. I recently completed a web development bootcamp at neue fische, where I built modern web applications with a creative eye and a strong focus on user experience. Before diving into code, I spent years shaping brand narratives and crafting digital content. That instinct for story and design now informs how I approach development: clean, accessible, and human-centered.
