Up-Skilling Marketing with Data & AI

Dasun Angelis, a recent Data Analytics graduate student ambassador, came to us after building a career in digital marketing. Having found himself unemployed, he decided to pursue his goal of specializing in the analytical, data-driven side of marketing, which is why he opted to study with us. Read below to find out more about his experience.


Tell us about yourself. Who are you and what is your professional background?

I come from a Digital Marketing background, where I worked on campaigns, performance marketing, and content-driven strategies. Over time, I became more interested in the analytical side of marketing—understanding data, tracking performance more deeply, and making data-driven decisions. Alongside my Digital Marketing experience, I also started learning Python, which helped me explore data in a more structured and technical way.

Why did you decide to learn Data Analytics & AI?

I decided to learn Data Analytics & AI to strengthen my existing digital marketing skills with data-driven capabilities. I wanted to move beyond just campaign execution and reporting into deeper analysis—such as customer behavior, marketing attribution, and automation. I saw this as an opportunity to become a hybrid professional: combining marketing expertise with analytics and AI.

What made you decide to do an intensive training program?

I chose an intensive program because I wanted structured, focused learning within a short time frame. Self-learning gave me a foundation, but I needed a guided curriculum, real projects, and hands-on practice to build job-ready skills in data analytics and AI.

Why did you choose this particular bootcamp? How did you hear about us?

I heard about this school through a friend's recommendation. After researching the program, I liked its practical, project-based approach and the focus on real-world skills. The structure, mentorship, and career-oriented learning approach made it a strong fit for my goals.

How did you like the program?

I really enjoyed the program. It was intensive but very practical and hands-on. The learning curve was challenging, but the support from instructors and the structure of the curriculum made it manageable and effective. I especially appreciated working on real datasets and applying concepts immediately.

Tell us a bit about the AI part of your studies. What did you learn?

In the AI part of my studies, I learned the fundamentals of machine learning and how to apply models to real datasets. I also gained exposure to how AI can be used in business contexts, especially in automation, prediction, and decision-making. This helped me understand how AI can enhance marketing workflows like segmentation, forecasting, and personalization.

What is your Capstone project about?

My capstone project focused on analyzing YouTube trending videos across 10 different countries. I worked with real-world data to understand how viewers in different countries engage with trending content and how views and engagement vary from country to country. The project involved data cleaning, exploratory data analysis, and building interactive visualizations. I used Python for analysis and Streamlit to create an interactive dashboard that made the insights easy to explore. The goal was to turn raw data into meaningful insights about user behavior and content trends across different countries.

We’ve seen you at a lot of our campus events this year. What made you want to attend them? Do you feel like they’ve benefited you?

I attended the campus events because they provided great opportunities to connect with peers, instructors, and industry professionals. They helped me stay motivated, gain different perspectives, and better understand how others are applying data skills in real-world roles. It also helped me build confidence in networking within the tech and data community.

What are your expectations now that you’ve graduated? What’s your plan?

Now that I’ve graduated, my goal is to move into roles like Digital Marketing Analyst, BI Analyst, or Marketing Automation Specialist. I want to combine my digital marketing experience with data analytics and AI skills to drive more performance-focused, data-driven marketing strategies. I’m also looking forward to continuing to improve my skills in dashboards, automation, and predictive analytics in a real business environment.
