Jakolien has landed her dream job at Gingko Analytics

Like some other graduates before her, Jakolien is glad to have ventured into the field of Data Science. After successfully completing the bootcamp, she was able to land her dream job at Gingko Analytics. What she liked most about the bootcamp and why she would encourage women to take the plunge into new waters, you can read in this short experience report.

What did you do before the bootcamp?

A PhD in neurolinguistics at five universities around the world: Potsdam (DE), Groningen (NL), Trento (IT), Newcastle (UK), and Macquarie (Sydney, AU).

What did you like most about the bootcamp?

The great coaches who were able to convey their expertise well, despite big differences in professional backgrounds among my nice bootcamp mates. Although most of the Data Science Bootcamp took place in the home office, they managed to have some social events during the bootcamp. I wonder if it was because it was the first All-Female Coaches Data Science Bootcamp.
Also, the steep learning curve was fun: it was incredible how much I learned each week. The nice thing is that I've maintained that learning curve after the bootcamp.

What would you say to women who are also thinking about getting into Data Science?

Just thinking about getting into it doesn't help: just try it out and see if you like working as a Data Scientist. Participating in the Data Science Bootcamp at neue fische is a good way to help you decide, because you will apply the working methods you learn during the bootcamp in the workplace. However, complex neural networks are not part of your everyday work in many cases. Don't be put off if your previous experience from studies and work doesn't fit the classic Data Scientist profile, because Data Scientists are so diverse that the 'Classic Data Scientist' doesn't exist. So dare to make a lateral entry into data science.
